Suits are the key behind unique abilities in terms of both combat and traversal. The sequel is sure to introduce plenty of new Spidey suits for both Peter and Miles, though another layer of depth could be on the way. Shortly after the first gameplay sequence debuted, devs shared new details on Spider-Man 2’s moment-to-moment gameplay. First up, in an interview with Famitsu, Insomniac’s creative director Bryan Intihar teased the map “is about two times larger than the previous titles” thanks to the addition of Queens and Brooklyn. It’s been three years since the first Spidey game by the studio launched to critical acclaim, and the universe has only been growing since. Like most AAA games, fall 2023’s big blockbuster game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has already confirmed a host of editions and pre-order bonuses that players can choose from when the game launches on October 20th, 2023.
During a mission, he is being transported from the Raft, the high security prison that holds the mosty dangerous criminals. The last time it was re-released outside of specialty arcade cabinets was on the Xbox 360 and PS3, so we’re going to need a fresh port of it, stat. It took me around 18 hours to hit the end of Spider-Man 2’s main story. Throughout the first half, I was mixing in a fair few side missions and activities with the main quests to make sure I was still looking after the city I couldn’t stop swinging around in. But, as I steadily began to realise the repetitive nature of the open-world tasks I was being asked to perform, combined with the ever-rising tensions of the plot, I made the decision to mainline it from about the halfway point onwards. Spider-Man 2 is now available on both PC and PS5, and with two Spider-Men, an expanded New York and a whole host of villains to contend with, you might expect some extended web-swinging action this time round.
The ropiness of this PC port is a sad addition to the issues, resulting in a flawed version of an already flawed sequel. My hope for this sequel was that with the core action already perfected, there would be the space to improve on the wider formula, creating a more interesting New York playground. Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 simply has more stuff—a bigger story, more pointless collectibles, sprawling skill trees, and double the Spider-Men.

These crystals will spawn smaller Sandmen that players have to defeat in order to collect the crystal. These reveal hidden memories of Marko before the events of his attack on the city. They eventually take him down, but as Flint returns to his human form, he admits he’s not safe. Sandman is one of the most intimidating villains in the Spider-Man universe, but even he has enemies of his own. He turns into a giant Sandman and embarks on a rampage through New York.
That’s not to say there aren’t benefits to taking a sneaky route, though, especially when you’re playing as Miles and using his invisibility power to quietly take out enemies. There are many perch takedown possibilities offered and new toys to play with too, such as the Web Line, which allows you to create your own highwires over your enemies to prey on them from above. It’s a fun tool that allows you to reshape the tightly designed arenas into a battlefield more in your favour, and in doing so, redecorate the room with web-wrapped people piñatas. On the other hand, much like combat, stealth isn’t a far cry from the many warehouse encounters you’ll have played in the previous games, as you clear out enemies using largely the same techniques. One area that Insomniac has made improvements in is that Spider-Man 2 offers significantly more in the way of enemy variety, so you’ll no longer be battering the same five balaclava bullies with baseball bats.
Fight enemies in Crimes until the abilities recharge and keep defeating enemies with these abilities in Crimes. For it to count you have to land the final hit that kills the enemy using these 4 abilities, for a total of 100 kills. It’s best to weaken the enemies beforehand, or focus on enemies that die in one hit, or spam all abilities in quick succession to wipe out bigger groups. They are unlocked automatically from story progress (unmissable) and by buying them from Peter’s skill tree. It’s also advisable to buy the upgrades from Peter’s skill tree that improve these abilities.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 already had a wealth of accessibility options at launch to help people with disabilities enjoy the game, and Insomniac is expanding upon this with the new update. Highly requested features such as Audio Description and Screen Readers have been added to the game along with additional visual features like Cinematic Captions and High Contrast Outlines. The full list of Accessibility features can be found on Insomniac’s website. Sony has been pretty tight-lipped when it comes to information surrounding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC port. With other games getting the marketing budget in recent months, such as Ghost of Tsushima on PC, it makes sense for Sony to spread out its releases to create buzz each time and to protect its financial assets. What’s more, the game is still relatively new on the PlayStation 5 in the grand scheme of things and until some of the planned DLC is actually released, there will likely be no updates on a PC port.
Lots of enhancements that make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 feel and play differently are thanks to the system’s impressive tech. However, there’s now a third strand shared by both characters, which is something entirely new to the series. With it you can build on the combat and traversal skills that you would want in either Spider-Man, creating a more rounded – and appropriately – symbiotic duo. Now you can build up height and speed with web-swinging before quickly switching to Web Wings to glide in areas like Queens, where there are few tall buildings.
Mavel’s Spider-Man 2 hits PC on Thursday, January 30 to let even more players take control of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they swing around New York City, battling villains and unlocking tons of suits. Peter also briefly appeared in Across the Spider-Verse in both versions of his Advanced Suit. Of all the enemies that Peter Parker and Miles Morales face in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, few are as terrifying and relentless as Venom. Powered by an extraterrestrial symbiote, the villain threatens all of Marvel’s New York over the course of the game and pushes the Spider-Men to the very limit. The fight with Venom is especially personal for Peter, both through his own experiences with the symbiote and whom the symbiote has since bonded with, delivering his greatest challenge as a hero. This a dedicated section for the small number of suits that are specifically tied to and/or unlocked within the main story, and therefore are inherently spoilers for certain plot developments or reveals.
